Nothing Has Changed collection features new Bowie track

“And nothing has changed, Everything has changed”

It is with much pleasure that we can exclusively announce a career-spanning collection of Bowie’s music covering fifty years of recorded works from his 1964 debut, Liza Jane, through to a brand new recording made this year.

(Please note, the image illustrating this piece has nothing to do with the artwork for the collection, which will follow in the coming weeks)

Nothing Has Changed (named after a lyric from the Heathen album opener Sunday) compiles tracks from every period of Bowie’s career and features new single; Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime), which was specially recorded for the compilation with long-term collaborator Tony Visconti.

Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime), will be released as a limited edition 10” single and digital download the same day as the album via Parlophone in the UK on Monday, November 17th.

In the US the album will be issued on Tuesday, November 18th, along with the digital download version of the single. The physical single will be released as a Black Friday 2014 exclusive 10” on November 28th. The album and single are issued by Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings in the US.

Both the UK and US versions of the 10” will feature another exclusive 2014 recording on the B-side: 'Tis A Pity She’s A Whore.

Alongside the brand new A-side track, Nothing Has Changed features the previously unreleased Let Me Sleep Beside You from the Toy album sessions. The download only Your Turn To Drive will also be making its debut on CD for Nothing Has Changed and the 2001 re-recording of the 1971 outtake, Shadow Man, is included too.

Stay tuned over the next couple of weeks for cover artwork of both the album and single and for any regional variations of the release dates we are given.

Keep reading for formats and tracklistings of the various versions of Nothing Has Changed.

David Bowie announces epic new single alongside career-spanning compilation
Sue (Or in a Season of Crime) will feature on Nothing Has Changed, which spans 50 years of Bowie’s career

Tuesday 9 September 2014 08.33 BST

David Bowie has announced his first new music since he surprised the world with his return in 2013 with the single Where Are We Now, followed by the album The Next Day.

His new single Sue (Or in a Season of Crime) – which lasts nearly eight minutes – was recorded with long-time collaborator Tony Visconti especially for inclusion on a new compilation, Nothing Has Changed, spanning 50 years of Bowie from 1964 to 2014. It will be given a separate release as a digital download and as a limited edition 10in single.

Nothing Has Changed also features rarities to lure in Bowiephiles. Let Me Sleep Beside You comes from the 2001 sessions from the unreleased album Toy; Your Turn to Drive, previously only available as a download, makes its debut on CD; and there is a 2001 rerecording of the 1971 outtake Shadow Man.

The single and compilation will be released on 17 November. Nothing Has Changed will be available in 3CD, 2CD, double vinyl and download formats.

David Bowie Announces New Music To Be Released In November

David Bowie has been making music for 50 years and today, his official Facebook page announced there is more new music to come. After a nearly decades-long absence from making records, Bowie unexpectedly released a new record in March 2013. Fans speculated it might signal a return to the stage for Bowie, but the iconic musician has remained silent.

The new music is the form of one track on a compilation record due out in November. According to Bowie’s Facebook announcement, the collection will span 50 years of Bowie’s music going back to his debut single in 1964. The new track is called “Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime).” The single will be released as a digital download as part of the collection and individually as a special edition 10″ single. Those who go for the 10″ receive an additional bonus: the B-side is another new single called “‘Tis A Pity She’s A Whore.”

The new music was produced by long-time collaborator Tony Visconti specifically for the new release.

Although the Facebook announcement included a mock-up picture, the statement said the actual artwork for the new record is still to come.

Bowie had fans on high alert earlier this summer, when he sent a note to a charity function that said there would be “more music soon.” Most were likely anticipating another full release or perhaps a live show. When Kate Bush made a recent triumphant return to the stage after a lengthy absence, Twitter was abuzz with false reports Bowie had joined her onstage.

As for the music, there may be other recordings lingering about the Bowie studio that are neither the new singles or the rarities due in the collection. In January of last year, when Bowie’s return was first announced, Visconti told Billboard they worked on 29 songs, only 17 of which made it on to versions of last year’s album, The Next Day.

Even at that time, Visconti made it clear Bowie was unlikely to be pressured into releasing more music or performing when he is not interested in doing so:

“He said to me, ‘I’ve played live for 30-odd years and given interviews, and I don’t want to do either of them anymore.’ They kind of fall into the same bag, the way he thinks. He just wants to make records. He feels like that’s what he’s entitled to do now.”

Nothing Has Changed, the name of the new compilation record, is a lyric from “Sunday,” the opening track of Bowie’s 2002 album Heathen. Check out a clip of “Sunday” below.

Nothing has Changed compilation surveys 50 years of Bowie
By Zoe Camp on September 9, 2014 at 8:25 a.m. EDT

It's been 50 years since David Bowie's first recording. Last year, he ended a decade of silence with The Next Day, and now, Bowie has announced a sweeping retrospective bearing the title Nothing has Changed. (It's named after a lyric from Heathen opener “Sunday”.) It will feature a brand new single, “Sue (Or in a Season of Crime)”, recorded specifically for the comp alongside longtime collaborator Tony Visconti.

The compilation and the "Sue" limited edition 10" and digital download will be released in the UK via Parlophone on November 17. In the U.S., the comp and the digital version of the single will be released November 18 via Columbia/Legacy, with the limited edition 10" coming out November 28 for Record Store Day's Black Friday.

The 10" will be backed by another new song,"'Tis a Pity She’s a Whore", on the B-side.

From the early days of 1964's “Liza Jane” to James Murphy’s recent remix, pretty much all of the major Bowie moments from the past half-century are present on Nothing Has Changed. The compilation features the previously unreleased "Let Me Sleep Beside You” from the sessions for the unreleased album Toy, plus the previously download-only "Your Turn to Drive”, as well as a re-recording of 1971's "Shadow Man" done in 2001.

Check out the tracklist for Nothing Has Changed here. It's available as a 3xCD, a 2xCD, double vinyl, and as a digital download.
