Watch David Bowie's video for 'Valentine's Day'

By Mikael Wood
July 16, 2013, 8:29 a.m.

Did you know David Bowie put out an album this year?

We're only 6½ months into 2013, but already it feels like an eternity since the glam-rock legend released "The Next Day," his first studio disc since 2003, back in March. (Blame "Yeezus.")

Perhaps that's why Bowie revealed Monday night that he'd made a music video for his song "Valentine's Day." Even legends need a way into the entertainment-news cycle.

Like the tune itself -- a Beatlesque guitar-pop number with a lovely vocal from Bowie -- the "Valentine's Day" video is a fairly straightforward affair, certainly as compared to the higher-concept clips for earlier "Next Day" singles such as "Where Are We Now?" and "The Stars (Are Out Tonight)," the latter of which starred Tilda Swinton as Bowie's wife-slash-doppelganger.

Here the singer simply performs the song in an unfinished industrial space, wearing a nice linen shirt and rocking one of those guitars without a headstock. It's got some great grimacing, too. Watch the video below.

David Bowie unveils new video for 'Valentine's Day' – watch
The single will be released as a limited edition picture disc on August 19

David Bowie has unveiled the video for 'Valentine's Day' – watch it above.

The track is the fourth single from Bowie's album 'The Next Day'. It was directed by Indrani and Markus Klinko, who previously collaborated with Bowie on the artwork for the 2002 'Heathen' album. The track will also be released as a limited edition picture disc on August 19, with the track 'Plan' as a b-side.

The video follows Bowie's previous promo for 'The Next Day', which starred the singer as a priest and Gary Oldman and Marion Cotillard as part of a cast of religious characters. It was criticised by the Catholic church and was briefly banned from YouTube before being reinstated.

Earlier this year, Tilda Swinton, played Bowie's onscreen wife in the video for 'The Stars (Are Out Tonight)', which is the second single from 'The Next Day' and was released in February.

Bowie's 24th album 'The Next Day' was released on March 8, 2013. It was his first album of new material since 2003's 'Reality'.
